Overview

Both within Europe and internationally there is a need for Small/Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to trade electronically. The biggest limiting factor towards achieving this is due to differences in language and terminology. What is required is a way to reduce this problem, without incurring substantial costs? One technique to resolving this issue is to use semantics. However, using semantics has always been complex and currently there is no easy way of overcoming this. This is where the STASIS (Software for Ambient Semantic Interoperable Services) project fits in. It aims to enable SMEs and corporates to participate in the eEconomy, by offering services and applications based on the open SEEM registry and repository network. These will allow easy access to analyse, view, compare and distil semantics in an efficient environment. STASIS has strong links to major standardisation and interoperability organisations within Europe and beyond. These include the European Standards groups eBusiness Board for European Standardisation (CEN/eBES), eBusiness Interoperability Forum (CEN/eBIF) and United Nations CEFACT organisation. These links will be a major part of the project as STASIS is committed to use, and interact with, these and other open standards/bodies.
